Campsite Facilities
The toilet block has flushing toilets with washing facilities (Hot &
Cold Water) for both male & female. The block is lit at night. Hot
showers are available at a small charge in the Wardens block, by arrangement
with the Warden.
A pay phone is available at the camp centre and a good
value tuck and souvenir shop is open during the weekend from Easter to
September and by request at all other times. Campers should not bring their own
tuck shop.
Squirrel Lodge The Lodge provides indoor accommodation in a
brick building comprising kitchen, toilets, hall approximately 30' x 30' with a
stone built wood burning fireplace and two dormitory bedrooms.
Sleeping
for 40 people is provided on bunk beds in the dormitories. There is ample space
for others to sleep in the hall and mattresses are provided. There is a
small room off the main hall which will sleep two Scouters Toilet and hot water
facilities are provided inside for both males and females, together with a
separate hot shower. There is also a Disabled toilet facility within the
building
Dinning tables and benches for 40 people are provided. In
addition tables and chairs for activities are available.
Cooking is via
a six high speed gas ring cooker with large oven, for which gas is provided
free of charge. In addition there is a deep freezer, a refrigerator and hot
water included in the hire charge. Electricity is from a token meter. Tokens
are available from the Warden. Cooking equipment, cups, saucers and
cutlery are provided.
All equipment must be left in a clean condition.
Toilets, bedrooms and kitchen must be cleaned and the building swept
out.
We ask you to leave the Lodge as you would hope to find
it.
Camp Code of Conduct Cars must be parked in the car parks in the camp
centre or near the Crew Den. Cars may only be taken up to the camping areas for
unloading of camping equipment (not personal gear) and must be parked in the
cark parks at all other times.
All rubbish must be burnt as far as
possible. All unburnt tins, etc. must be put in the bin provided near the Crew
Den.
Wet pits must be dug on the perimeter of your site, near ditches if
possible, filled in and marked appropriately on leaving.
Altar fires are
provided and these must be used if cooking on wood or backwoods cooking is
required.
In view of the site's isolated situation, normal security
precautions must be taken when camping. All equipment and personal belongings
are on site at owner's risk. Whenever possible all campers should wear group
scarves or other means of identification.
A Warden is on duty at
weekends from Easter until end of September. Fees must be paid to the Warden
and site(s) must be inspected before campers leave site.
No Felling,
cutting or marking of trees is permitted.
Band instruments, radios etc.
may be played provided the noise is not a nuisance to other campers; Remember
Silence is Golden between 10.00pm and 7.30am.
Guns of any description
are not allowed in the wood.
Leaders dogs are to be kept on a lead and
under full control at all times and any mess cleared.
The consumption of
alcohol or drugs (other than medical) is not allowed.
All accidents MUST
be reported to the Warden. Limited first aid facilities are
available.
All camping is to be accordance with "Camping Standards" of
the Scout Association.
All Campers and visitors are requested not to
leave litter of any kind, but to keep the site clean, attractive and safe for
everyone
